Vegetable Shortening and Indigestion

Besides all the other bad effects of Vegetable Shortening (AKA Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil or Transfat) this substance is hard to digest for some people and the added stomach acid it promotes results in acid reflux and other related problems. I only know this from emperical and personal experience. See if this holds true for you as well. Vegetable Shortening was originally used to replace butter and lard (as in Margerine and Crisco) by remaining solid at room temperature. It is an artificial plastic like substance created by forcing extra Hydrogen atoms/molecules into regular (good for you) vegetable oils creating a larger and hard to digest molecule. I've stayed away from vegetable shortening as much as possible, it's in practically every baked and many processed foods. Indigeston is the least of it's health related issues but is the most annoying and easy to detect.
