How to make Firefox remember *all* passwords (even when logging to PayPal & Yahoo Mail) ?

You have maybe noticed, when you log in to PayPal, Yahoo! Mail, Live Mail and some other websites, that Firefox 3 does not give you the option to save the name & password for you, which in certain cases is a nuisance.

The reason? Security. In the forms of these websites, in the field INPUT, the following code appears:

When "autocomplete" is ‘off’, then the browser (quite correctly) does not give the user the option of saving the password for him. For websites, such as PayPal, for example, using which you can transfer small or large sums of money, this is a very wise approach.

On the other hand, in this case, you have to manually type each time your username and/or password, which can be quite annoying (especially if they are very long/secure). If you are using your own computer/laptop, and you think that you do not need that extra bit of security, there is a very easy way to make Firefox 3 to remember the passwords even for these secure websites, which set autocomplete to “off”.

Here’s how:

(The instructions below are for Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition; if you use another operating system (Windows Vista, MacOS X or some of the distributions of Linux), search in an analogical way!)

Step One: Close Firefox browser (if it is open).

Step Two: Navigate to the directory where Firefox is installed, and then open ‘components’ — here is the exact location in Windows XP Professional:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components\

Step Three: Open with Notepad or any other plain text editor the following file:
nsLoginManager.js

Step Four: Find the code:

_isAutocompleteDisabled : function (element) {
if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&
element.getAttribute("autocomplete").toLowerCase() == "off")
return true;
return false;
},

Step Five: Comment in this JavaScript code three lines, as shown below:

_isAutocompleteDisabled : function (element) {
// if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&
// element.getAttribute("autocomplete").toLowerCase() == "off")
// return true;
return false;
},

5) Start Firefox again. Done! :-)

Now, when you login to websites, which do not allow the browser to remember usernames and/or passwords, Firefox will offer you the option to save the data, just like in others, not-so-secure websites!

I hope this tip will be useful for someone, beside me… Enjoy! :-)

____________
Some Notes:
(1) Use at your own risk and responsibility! In the case someone succeeds in stealing online all of your millions, thanks to your saved password and my (in)valuable advices, I declare to be deprived of all responsibility! :-)
(2) I am not sure, what will happen, if you update your version of Firefox (for example, 3.0.0 to 3.0.1). It is possible that the changes in the file will be lost and file will be over-written. But this is not such a big trouble, because if you have already logged in into most of these websites, then the usernames/passwords will remain saved — worst case, if need be, you can just make the change in the nsLoginManager.js file again, after a Firefox update!
(3) I used as base for my article information from this comments — but the user, which has left it, unfortunately, did not leave a name or URL, so I can’t give him/her full credits… :-(
(4) I have tested this method with Firefox 3.0.1 (English-US). For earlier versions of Firefox, I am not sure, if it will work — and anyway, I believe that Firefox 2.0.x had quite a different policy in regard to saving usernames and passwords in forms…

Download WPE pro from wpepro.net

You will also need a method of viewing/converting text strings to Hex, in this tutorial I am using notepad++ (can also use a Hex-ED or Firefox ext)

Open Firefox

Open WPE Pro and select Firefox.exe from the running processes

Now make a filter, Double Click on Filter 1 , click advanced mode, click on from position of chain found, click apply and tick off filter 1 with a check mark, note the string length is 50 char, if you make a spoof name of 50 hard return, or
it really makes a big splash, also.....some HTML can be injected

500 Internal Server Error Resolution

Error Message
The "500 Internal Server Error" message can be customized by each website. While this isn't very common, keep in mind that this error may present itself in more ways than the common ones listed below:

  • "500: Internal Server Error"
  • "HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error"
  • "500 Error"

The 500 Internal Server Error displays inside the Internet browser window, just as web pages do.

Cause

The 500 Internal Server Error is a very general HTTP status code that means something has gone wrong on the web site's server but the server could not be more specific on what the exact problem is.

Resolution

The 500 Internal Server Error is a "server-side" error, meaning the problem is not with your PC or Internet connection but instead is a problem with the web site's server. Even though the issue is not yours to troubleshoot or resolve, there are a few things you can do:

1. Retry the web page by clicking the refresh/reload button or trying the URL from the address bar again. Even though the 500 Internal Server Error is reporting a general error on the web site's servers and not your computer, the server error may only be temporary. Trying the page again will often be successful.

Note: If the 500 Internal Server Error message appears during the checkout process at an online merchant, be aware that duplicate attempts to checkout may end up creating multiple orders - and multiple charges! Most merchants have automatic protections from these kinds of actions but it's still something to keep in mind.

2. Come back later. The 500 Internal Server Error message is one of the most common error message seen when checking out during an online purchase so sales are often disrupted. This is usually a great incentive to resolve the issue very quickly.

3. If you can't wait any longer for the problem to be resolved or if you'd like to help out, you may want to attempt to contact the webmaster or another website contact and advise them of their server error. The webmaster of most Internet sites can be reached via email at webmaster@website.com, replacing website.com with the actual website name.

Applies To

This issue applies to any Internet browser in any operating system.

Related Error Messages

The following error messages are related to the "500: Internal Server Error" message:

400: Bad Request | 401: Unauthorized | 403: Forbidden | 404: Not Found | 408: Request Timeout | 502: Bad Gateway | 503: Service Unavailable | 504: Gateway Timeout

Disabling Internet Explorer in Windows XP is by using a dummy proxy server

One way of disabling Internet Explorer in Windows XP is by using a dummy proxy server address inside the IE connection settings, disabling the browser from accessing anything on the Internet.

Make sure you've installed and tested an alternative browser (like Firefox) and then follow the easy steps below to disable Internet Explorer in Windows XP using a dummy proxy server:
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Disabling Internet Explorer in Windows XP using a dummy proxy server takes less than 15 minutes
Here's How:

1. Click on the Tools menu option in Internet Explorer, followed by the Internet Options... option.
2. Choose the Connections tab from the Internet Options window.
3. Click on the LAN Settings... button. The Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window will appear.
4. In the Proxy server section, check the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections).
5. In the Address: text box, enter 0.0.0.0.
6. In the Port: text box, enter 80.
7. Click OK and then click OK again in the Internet Options window.
8. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
9. If you wish to undo these changes in the future, simply follow the steps listed above again, only this time uncheck the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) in step 4.

Tips:

1. Since the Windows Update site requires the use of Internet Explorer, manual updates will no longer be possible. Automatic updates, if enabled, should continue unaffected.
2. Even though you may be disabling Internet Explorer, you are not actually removing it. Your Windows XP PC still uses Internet Explorer for a number of internal processes.
3. Keep in mind that updates related to Internet Explorer will still need to be performed because IE is still on your PC.

How to Make Firefox Load Faster

Firefox may run quickly but it loads slowly; here's how to fix it. (This tip is for experienced computer users only.)

You can slash Firefox's slow load time by compressing the DLLs and executables. There are many choices for compression but I suggest you use UPX which is free, efficient and time proven.

1. Download UPX from http://upx.sourceforge.net/#download

2. Unzip upx.exe into your Firefox installation folder which is normally C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox.

3. Make sure Firefox is not running then shell to a command prompt in the Firefox installation directory.

4. Type in the following command in a single line and hit return:

for %v in (*.exe *.dll components\*.dll plugins\*.dll) do upx "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\%v"

5. If on some later occasion you want to unpack the files, just type in the command above but add the decompression switch "-d" after "do upx."

That's it; enjoy the difference!
