GooGle Search ------ By ------ RaaVaNaN

This is an important discussion about how to search in google for different results. As we know the google is a powerful search option for all known as r best friend , but how it work?. Here we go..

Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google tries to match your query by manipulating huge functions like how many times the term appears on the page and examines it. This makes a google a powerful search engine and user friendly.

We can search the google by using deferent operators that are defined by google.

Five Tips On Google Search

Sometimes when you search on Google you might not get the desired results or you might need to search a lot by changing the keywords you are searching for.

1. The “+” Sign : Google ignores some words like the, how and many other digits and words which actually slow down the search speed. Now if a common word is essential for you and you want google to look for it the just give a space, put the “+” sign and type in the word. By this google makes sure that, that word is actually included in the search as well. I came to knew of this as i was searching for a Book, but google was not showing the desired results, i used this technique and was able to get the details I was looking for.

2. Synonym Search with “~”(Tildy) Sign : If in case you want to search for the term as well it’s synonym, then in that case just add the “~” sign just in front of your term, you will then see the links for the same terms synonym. This can be really helpful in case you are searching for some specific results

3. Use of Keyword “OR” : In case you want the search results to show two different categories then in that case you can use the Keyword “OR”. This will make sure that you will get the results accordingly. Similarly you can also use “AND”, but in this case google will show you pages where both the parameters are met, whereas in case of keyword “OR”, any parameter that matches up, those links will be displayed.

4. Getting links of Specific Site : Sometimes you might visit a site but not able to find the links or accurate pages in that site. What do you do? Just click on links to get the specific page? Well a simple answer is search through Google. Suppose you want to search for groups site in google.com, then simple type in “groups site:google.com”. You will see op tins coming for the google groups. This is a pretty old method is very useful to get to a specific page of a site. The code for this would be “site:”

5. Search within a Range : You can search in Google within a desired range be it be Money, Weight, Age or any thing else, you just need to define the range and you will get the results you require. You need to type in the range as separated by “..”. But make sure you specify the unit as well like for money, weight, length or any thing else. Like, for Example:- TV 21..32 inches

Let us know what are the elements, functions and factors involve in the part of search.

Google Operators:
Operators are used to refine the results and to maximize the search value. They are your tools as well as ethical hackers’ weapons
Basic Operators:

+, -, ~ , ., *, “”, |,

Advanced Operators:
allintext:, allintitle:, allinurl:, bphonebook:, cache:, define:, filetype:, info:, intext:, intitle:, inurl:, link:, phonebook:, related:, rphonebook:, site:, numrange:, daterange

(+) force inclusion of something common
Google ignores common words (where, how, digit, single letters) by default:

Example: StarStar Wars Episode +I

(-) exclude a search term
Example: apple –red

(“) use quotes around a search term to search exact phrases:
Example: “Robert Masse”
Robert masse without “” has the 309,000 results, but “robert masse” only has 927 results. Reduce the 99% irrelevant results

(~) search synonym:
Example: ~food
Return the results about food as well as recipe, nutrition and cooking information

( . ) a single-character wildcard:
Example: m.trix
Return the results of M@trix, matrix, metrix…….

- Text (ans, txt)

Note: We actually can search asp, php and cgi, pl files as long as it is text-compatible.

Example: Budget filetype: xls
Advanced Operators “Intitle:”

Intitle: search_term :: Find search term within the title of a Webpage

Allintitle: search_term1 search_term2 search_term3
Find multiple search terms in the Web pages with the title that includes all these words

Get the serial number you need ! (Works for most of the products)
1) Go to Google.

2) Use Keyword as "Product name" 94FBR

3) Where, "Product Name" is the name of the item you want to find the serial number for.

4) And voila - there you go - the serial number you needed.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Quite simple really. 94FBR is part of a Office 2000 Pro cd key that is widely distributed as it bypasses the activation requirements of Office 2K Pro. By searching for the product name and 94fbr, you guarantee two things. 1) The pages that are returned are pages dealing specifically with the product you're wanting a serial for. 2) Because 94FBR is part of a serial number, and only part of a serial number, you guarantee that any page being returned is a serial number list page.

See these example searches:
Code:

"Photoshop 7"+94FBR
"Age of Mythology"+94FBR
"Nero Burning Rom 5.5"+94FBR

Final Touch:: try these keyword strings
you can search files on Rapidshare server too.

Just go to Google.com and punch “site:rapidshare.com” followed by:

“inurldf” for Ebooks in PDF Format
“inurl:avi|wmv|mpg|nva” for Movies
“inurl:mp3|ogg|wma” for Audio Files
“inurl:exe” for executable application
“inurl:zip|rar|7zip|tar” for RAR, ZIP, 7ZIP or TAR compressed archieve

Examples:

If your searching for Google Earth in ZIP format, then you must search for “site:rapidshare.com inurl:googleearth” (obviously without the quotes)

Similarly if your searching for XYZ video, then it should be something like “site:rapidshare.com nurl:avi|wmv|mpg|nva XYZ”

For finding PHP scripts in web:
php.null intitle:"index of /"

Gmail Tips, Tricks and Secrets

Gmail Tips, Tricks and Secrets
To change the new mail sound in Gmail:

* Make sure Gmail Notifier is installed.
* Select Control Panel from the Windows Start menu.
* Choose Sounds and Audio Devices.
o If you can't see this item, click Switch to Classic View in the
left pane.
* Go to the Sounds tab.
* Select the desired sound for New Mail Notification.
o To disable audio notification, choose (none).
* Click OK.

Since Gmail Notifier uses the default windows new mail event
notification, the sound you choose for Gmail is also what you will
hear when new mail arrives in Outlook Express or Outlook, for example.

To forward your Gmail email to another email address automatically:

* Select Settings from the top Gmail navigation bar.
* Go to the Forwarding tab.
* Make sure Forward a copy of incoming mail to __ and __ is selected.
* Enter the desired email address.
* Choose how Gmail should handle forwarded messages.

Select
o keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox to have Gmail leave the message in
your Gmail Inbox as new and unread.
o archive Gmail's copy (probably the most useful setting) to make
Gmail mark forwarded messages as read and remove them from the Inbox,
but keep them in the archive for later search and retrieval.
o trash Gmail's copy to move message to the Trash after they have
been forwarded. Trashed messages will be deleted automatically after
30 days.
* Click Save Changes.

To change your Gmail password:

* Select Settings from the top Gmail navigation bar.
* Follow the Account Settings » link.
* Under Edit Personal Info, choose Password.
* Type your current password under Current password:.
* Enter the new password twice under New password: and Repeat
password:.
* Click Save new password.

To import addresses into Gmail:

you first need to get them out of your current address book and in
CSV format. What sounds highly sophisticated is really just a plain
text file with addresses and names, separated by comma.

* Hotmail: Export your Hotmail address book to Outlook Express and
subsequently to a CSV file.
* Outlook Express: Save your address book to a CSV file.
* Yahoo! Mail: Export your address book.
* Outlook: Save your contacts to a CVS file.
* Mac OS X Mail: Use AddressBookToCSV.
* Mozilla and Netscape: Export contacts from the address book.
o Unfortunately, Mozilla and Netscape do not add the column headings
needed by Gmail for importing contacts. You have to open the exported
CSV file in either a spread sheets program or a plain text editor and
add them. In the latter case, add the following line to the top of
the file: "First Name,Last Name,Name,,Email
Address,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,".

Once the export is done, importing the addresses into your Gmail
contact list is really easy:

* Follow the Contacts link in the topmost Gmail navigation bar.
* Select Import Contacts.
* Choose the CSV file you just saved from your email client or
service.
* Click Import Contacts.

To print an individual email message in Gmail:

* Open the desired message.
o If the message is collapsed in a thread, click its tab.
* Click More options.
* Follow the Print link below the message's headers.
* Print the page that comes up.

Keep in mind that Gmail hides quoted text when printing a message. To
see the original text in addition to the reply, either print the
complete thread or the message the quotations are taken from in
addition to the reply.

To search everything (including the Trash and Spam folders) in Gmail:

* Click Show search options.
* Make sure All & Spam & Trash is selected under Search:.
* Enter your search criteria and terms.
* Click Search Mail.

To archive an email in the Gmail Inbox (either open or checked in the
message list):

* Press Y.

This will remove the message from the Inbox while it is still
accessible from All Mail, via search or by visiting one of its labels.

But the Y keyboard shortcut can do more in Gmail.

It is available not only in the Inbox but in nearly every area. Its
uses are manifold and not necessarily what you'd expect. So it's good
to remember both the common denominator "remove from current view"
and the specific meanings:

* Inbox: move the message to the mail archive.
* Trash: undelete the message and restore it to the Inbox.
* Starred: remove the star from the message.
* Labels: remove the current label from the message.
* Spam: mark the message as not spam and move it to the Inbox.

Even though removing stars and labels may seem a bit counterintuitive
at first, you can probably use these shortcuts to oft-used
functionality to your advantage.

G!Talk Tips

Here are few tips and tricks inside Google Talk, if you have any others please post a comment

1. Wumpus Game - First noted by a GoogleRumors commentor, if you add the buddy wumpus.game@gmail.com you can play the classic text-based game. It took a little while for us to be approved but we’re proud to say that we just got eaten by the Wumpus.

2. Change the font size - While holding the control key, move the scrollwheel on your mouse either up or down. This trick works while being focused in either the read or write area. [via]

3. Insert linebreaks - If you want to have a message that spans multiple paragraphs, just hold shift and hit enter. You can add as many new lines as you want to create.

4. Style text - Also noted by a GoogleRumors commenter, you can make text either bold or italic by surrounding it with * or _. (Example: _this_ is italic.)

5. Switch windows - Hitting tab will cycle through open windows. It will select minimized conversations, to expand them just hit enter. If you just want to cycle through IMs and don’t care about the buddy list, control-tab will do that and will automatically expand a minimized conversation if you settle on one.

How To Conference Calls G - Talk

What you need to do to have conference calls: Open up a copy of Google Talk on all computers with which you wish to conference. After one copy is opened make a new shortcut for Google Talk but at the end of it add /nomutex. If you installed it to the default folder then your shortcut should read "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe" /nomutex. Open 2nd instances of the software on every user's computer. After this start a chain: User 1 should connect on one instance to user 2. User 2 will connect on his second instance to user 3. User 3 will connect using his second instance back to user 1. With this chain everyone is connected to everyone.

Nickname & Status Message :
You can't change your nickname in a way that other people will see it change. Every nickname in the Google Talk contactlist is the part that is before @gmail.com (only the alphabetical characters are used) or the name you chosen for your GMail account. To change the nickname need to go to your Gmail account and change the name there. Choose Settings, Accounts, and then Edit info. Click on the second radio button, and enter your custom name. As a result all of your emails will have that nick as well, there is no way to seperate the two. You can add a website in your custom message, it will be clickable when someone opens a conversation window with you.

Contacts :

You don't need to say Yes or No when someone wants to add you as a friend; you can simply ignore it, the request will go away. (On the other hand, someone with whom you chat often will automatically turn to be your friend, unless you disable this).
The Gmail account 'user@gmail.com' can't be invited as your friend.

Play Music :

It's possible to broadcast music, MP3, etc.. through Google Talk.
Unplug your microphone. Double click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner. This will open up "Volume Control". Select "Options" and then "Properties". Then check the button next to "Recording" then click OK. You may also have to change your setting under Mixer Device. Now the Recording Control screen should be up. On my computer I selected "Wave Out Mix". Click on the green phone in Google Talk and call your friend.

Registry Tweaks

Registry Tweaks

You can edit most settings by opening regedit (start -> regedit),
and navigating to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Talk.
The "Google/Google Talk" key has several sub-keys that hold different option values:
Accounts: This one has subkeys for each different account that has logged in on the client. These keys have different values that store the username, password and connection options.
Autoupdate: Stores the current version information. When the client checks for updates it compares Google's response with these values. If an update is needed, it will download and update the new version.
Options: This is the most interesting part, where most of the current hacks should be used (keep reading).
Process: Stores the process ID. Probably used by Google Talk to detect if it's already running or not.
1.) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Talk\Options\show_pin
If 1, shows a "pin" next to the minimize button that keeps the windows on top of all the other open windows when clicked.
2.)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Talk\Options\view_show_taskbutton
If 0, hides the taskbar button, and leaves the tray icon only, when the window is shown
3.)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Talk\Options\away_inactive
If 1, status will be set as Away after the specified number of minutes.
4.)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Talk\Options\away_screensaver
If 1, status will be set as Away after the specified number of minutes.
5.)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Talk\Options\inactive_minutes
