Paruppu Rasam

Ingredients:

  • 1 Big Tomato diced
  • 1/4 Cup Thuvar / Toor dhal
  • 1 Tsp Rasam powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Jeera
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 1 Sprig Curry leaves
  • 1/2 Cup Coriander leaves
  • 1/2 Tsp Puli / Tamarind paste
  • 1 Tsp Oil

Preparation:
  • Pressure cook thuvar dhal with 1 cup water & few drops of oil.
  • Heat oil in a saucepan & add jeera.
  • After few seconds add diced tomato & salt.
  • Cook till tomato becomes soft.
  • Add hing, rasam powder, 1/2 cup water & puli paste.
  • Boil in medium flame for 10 minutes.
  • Add 1 cup water & cooked dhal & boil for 10 more minutes.
  • Finally add chopped coriander leaves & curry leaves.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Serve hot with rice.
Tip:

Adding a drop of oil while cooking dhal will make it cook fast.
